Weekend Trip to Vitoria

Hola,

I recently traveled to Vitoria, Spain in the Basque Country province. I was invited by my old roommates Txemi and Julia. We traveled by car five and a half hours, which for Spain is nearly a cross country trip and really far. It was a wonderful time. This was my second time to Vitoria, but a new experience.

I was so excited to visit because Vitoria is the European Green Capital for 2012. To me it was quite clear why. Vitoria is a much different city than many that I have seen in Spain. There are many parks within the city, bike lanes, community bikes that are free for citizens, and many trees along the streets. While in the city you feel more connected with nature.
While I was there we went for a bike ride through the city and a nearby park. I was able to see the new basketball stadium and the old basketball stadium which has been re-purposed to be a out-door concert hall during summer months. We tried pinchos every time we stopped for a coffee or glass of wine. Pinchos are like fancy tapas, a must try if you visit the Basque Country.
Visiting Vitoria felt so comfortable, largely because I was with my good friends Txemi and Julia. Thank you for showing me a good time and your home away from home.

Here are some pictures from the trip:

The old basketball stadium/new outdoor concert venue.
The new basketball stadium.
Riding around Vitoria was so much fun!
These are Pinchos! Like tapas, but way better.

The new cathedral. It was finished last century.
 A Japanese style garden.

We traveled to the mountains near Vitoria one day to see the snow. This is what we saw:
This is where people used to wash clothes.

You can buy cheese at this house.

 Do you see the cat?

Until Next Time,
