Video of the Week - M.I.A. "Bad Girls"
Hola,
This week I have chosen M.I.A.'s "Bad Girls" in light of my recent collar bone fracture. More about that later. "Bad Girls" comes off M.I.A. fourth unreleased album. The video is sick! Recently M.I.A. has worked with Madonna and Nicki Minaj on the track "Give Me All Your Lovin'" which they performed as the halftime entertainment for Superbowl XLVI. M.I.A. was born in London in 1975. Her style is unique and is a combination of various musical styles.
Enjoy the video:

Carnaval Road Trip
Hola,
During the week of Carnaval I went on a road trip with two friends Dorien and Reuben. We traveled mostly from north to south and saw so much of the country. It was so much fun! We traveled from A Coruña to Salamanca to Toledo to Consuegra to Cordoba to Zuheros to Granada to Salobreña to Sevilla to A Coruña. We spent four nights in the car and three in hotels. Oh! And I got a haircut!
Day 1: A Coruña to Salamanca
Day 2: Salamanca to Toledo to Consuegra to Cordoba
And of course the reason we went here, the gourmet shop. This is a photo of me with a bottle of olive oil that is/was sold at the cheese shop that I worked in, in Minneapolis. Somehow we randomly stopped in the town it was made, crazy! I bought a bottle and some amazing cheese, of course.
Day 4: Granada
Day 5: Granada to Salobreña
The view leaving Granada was incredible! Some day I will spend some serious time in the Sierra Nevada.
And its so close to the beach! Spent a wonderful day relaxing here. Enjoyed the sun, sea air, and slept.
Day 6: Salobreña to Sevilla
Day 7: Sevilla
This day was spent mostly in the car.
A huge thank you to Dorien and Reuben for inviting me on this trip with them.

Day 1: A Coruña to Salamanca
Dorien and Reuben in front of a castle ruins we passed along the way.
Storks on the cathedral in Salamanca.
This is a famous mural. There is a frog the size of a silver dollar somewhere, can you find it?
This is an Art Deco museum.
Day 2: Salamanca to Toledo to Consuegra to Cordoba
A lake! And a Castle!
Toledo! So good to be back and to show my friends around the city I called home for a while.
Dorien in front of Don Quijote's enemy, the windmill.
Cordoban Gazpacho!
Day 3: Cordoba to Zuheros to Granada
A beautiful courtyard.
We stopped to look at some of the olive trees, there were no olives.
The view from Zuheros. Wow!
In Granada we went to the famous Al Hambra. Can't you tell we were so excited to be there. Its basically a historical city. Two castles, town ruins, gardens, museums, and more! It was so beauitful.
One of the castles with a nearly perfect circle plaza in its center.
Sevilla is a beautiful port city!
Plaza de España.
Day 7: Sevilla
Sevilla is flat, I had to rent a bike.
The grafiti was so good.
I came across this nice biker gang. They rode chopper style bikes.
The amazing new monument. This month it has been there for one year.
The view was incredible at sunset! Such a relaxing moment on the last day of our journey.
We had wonderful sun the whole week. However, it was hot in Sevilla.
We had paella for dinner. Strangely, I think we ate in the same restaurant that I had paella in the last time I visited Sevilla, three years ago.
Day 8: Sevilla to A CoruñaThis day was spent mostly in the car.
A huge thank you to Dorien and Reuben for inviting me on this trip with them.

Ourense is Fun!
Hola amigos,
The sun has been shinning! Yeah Yeah Yeah!
A few weekends ago I traveled to Ourense, a city in the south of the province of Galicia. It is warmer during the day there than in A Coruña. We had beautiful weather! The sky was clear, the sun was warm, and the company couldn't have been better. I traveled with my friends Adam, Aneta, Dorien, and Reuben. We spent the morning exploring the city. We stopped for a picnic a long the river. It was a perfect meal: cheese, wine, bread, trail mix, and apples.
After lunch we were in search of the hot springs. We found a public hot spring along the river, quickly changed, and were in the water. We lounged around changing from pool to pool and Reuben and I even waded into the river, which was freezing!
After the hot springs we traveled to a near by town called Ribadavia. We wandered the winding streets of this valley town and then were in search of tapas for dinner. Every place we stopped in told us their kitchen was closed until 8pm. We stopped at a pizza place that we had seen earlier and they told us the same, but we were tired from a hard day of lounging and wandering the cities, so we stopped for a glass of local wine. As a gift for buying wine they gave us each a pintxo, a fancy tapa. Sweet! We finished the wine and by then it was 8pm, so we decided to stay and try the pizza. It was the best pizza I have had in Spain! Such a good choice. We all ordered a different individual pizza and exchanged slices.
Tired and full we headed home to A Coruña, about a two hour drive. A pleasant day trip!
